Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia, officially known as the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, is a vast country located on the Arabian Peninsula, with an estimated population of over 35 million people as of 2023. It is the largest country in the Middle East and covers over two million square kilometers, making it the thirteenth largest country globally. The capital city is Riyadh, while other major cities include Jeddah, Mecca, and Medina. Saudi Arabia has a youthful population, with a considerable percentage under the age of 30, partly due to the rapidly transforming economy and educational opportunities in the region.

Geographically, Saudi Arabia is defined by its expansive deserts, including the Rub' al Khali, or the Empty Quarter, which is the largest continuous sand desert in the world. The country exhibits a desert climate characterized by extreme temperatures, where summers can be intensely hot with temperatures often soaring above 45 degrees Celsius (113 degrees Fahrenheit), while winters are relatively mild. Rainfall is scarce and occurs predominantly during the winter months, contributing to the arid landscape that dominates much of the nation.

One of Saudi Arabia's most recognizable symbols is its flag, consisting of a green field with the Arabic inscription of the Islamic declaration of faith or Shahada, in white script, above a white horizontal sword. The green color represents Islam, while the sword symbolizes justice. The country's deeply ingrained Islamic culture defines its laws, customs, and daily life. As the birthplace of Islam, it is home to Islam's two holiest cities: Mecca and Medina, which attract millions of Muslim pilgrims worldwide annually for the Hajj and Umrah pilgrimages, pivotal events in the Islamic calendar.

Saudi Arabian culture is deeply rooted in Arabian customs and Islamic traditions. The nation is known for its hospitality, where offering coffee and dates is a symbol of welcome and respect. Traditional dress is an integral part of Saudi identity, with men typically wearing a white robe known as a thobe and women donning an abaya. With the recent initiatives under the Saudi Vision 2030, there has been an increasing acknowledgment and embrace of arts, sports, and entertainment, marking a shift towards opening up the cultural fabric of the country. These changes are evident in new public cinemas, concerts, and social reforms aimed at enhancing the lifestyle of the Saudi population while preserving its rich heritage and values.
